ATP Detection a Valuable Tool for All Industries

Midbrook, Inc., a Jackson, MI based manufacturer of cleaning systems and cleanliness testing equipment, is releasing their versatile ATP (adenosine triphosphate) detection kit for use in a variety of industries. The Midbrook ATP Detection kit is suitable for use in food service, dairy, agriculture, schools, and any other field where health regulations are present.

(Vocus/PRWEB ) May 19, 2009 -- Midbrook, Inc. is always researching and developing new ways to improve cleaning/decontamination processes. As a manufacturer of industrial parts washers for 30 years, Midbrook learned the value of not only creating an effective cleaning process, but also the value of validating that process through testing.

“The process is important,” says Midbrook Business Development Director James Crowley, “but validating that process is equally as important.”

Midbrook’s expertise is in the industrial and medical cleaning/decontamination fields, but their ATP Detection equipment is applicable across a wide array of industries. With the ability to detect bacteria and other cellular residue on a surface in less than three minutes, ATP Detection is a valuable tool in any industry where cleanliness is an important goal.

“The food handling industry (and other industries) uses ATP detection equipment as a way to verify that they have adequately cleaned food processing equipment and food contact surfaces,” said Midbrook Technology Center Director Jack Griffes.

Griffes cautions that ATP detection does not replace current methods of bacteria testing, but rather enhance them and speed up the process.

“ATP detection does not replace bacterial culture tests – but it does give a very rapid quantifiable assessment of surface cleanliness – detecting residues that are NOT detectable by the human eye,” adds Griffes.

The ability to detect contamination immediately means that the operator can implement immediate changes to remedy cleaning problems, rather than wait up to 72 hours for a result. ATP also detects more than just bacteria present on the surface or equipment being analyzed.

“The test is going to detect any bacteria that may be present; and it is going to detect food and other cellular residues that might harbor or serve as a food source for bacteria as well,” said Griffes.

“We think the quick results and versatility provided by ATP Detection is going to be very popular in many industries,” said Business Development Director James Crowley.

The possibilities of ATP Detection have already been seen by Midbrook. Recently, cooling tower maintenance workers have begun using the kit in their cooling towers.

Cooling towers require regular monitoring, and ATP Detection significantly speeds up the process. Cooling tower maintenance currently employs a bacteria culture test which takes up to three days for results. If the results are unsatisfactory, the workers have to return to the tower to perform the necessary corrective actions.

With ATP Detection, the results are known in less than three minutes. This allows the cooling tower personnel to perform their maintenance immediately, saving an unnecessary trip later in the process.

“In less than three minutes, ATP Detection provides a clear acknowledgment that either your cleaning/decontamination process is working, or that it is failing,” said Crowley.

“Knowing that, you can make the appropriate adjustments immediately instead of waiting three days to find out how your process is working.”

ATP Detection’s immediate results and, if necessary, the corrective actions taken, keep cleanliness problems to a minimum in facilities. By catching process failures early, a facility deploying ATP Detection is able to save money and time by avoiding problems that would have escalated in the normal two to three day sampling to testing results window.

“It is an ounce of prevention that is worth far more than a pound of cure,” concludes Griffes.
