Portsmouth, RI (PRWEB) May 21, 2009 -- A2B Tracking Solutions learned today that it has been awarded a one-year contract for up to $2.5 million from the Marine Corps System Command (MCSC) Operational Forces Systems (OFS). Under the contract A2B is to provide the US Marine Corps (USMC) with IUID integrated marking carts in order to meet the Department of Defense (DoD) IUID requirement to mark all legacy equipment by 31 December 2010.

"A2B's announcement today is fantastic news for Portsmouth and Rhode Island. The leadership team at A2B has been working to grow and expand its business in a challenging economic environment and I applaud the firm's efforts. I will continue to work in Congress in support of investments and policies to ensure that businesses can continue to be innovative, grow and create jobs," said Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the chief investigative committee responsible for oversight over federal procurement issues.

The transportable marking carts, which will be deployed to USMC installations worldwide, will include A2B's UID Comply!® data management software along with laser marking devices, thermal transfer printers, laptop computers, scanners and bar code verifiers. A2B will also provide installation, training and on-going support.

With the IUID initiative, DoD intends that all its assets will become visible through a central IUID Registry. This visibility will enable important cost containment measures with regard to DoD assets, including elimination of redundancy, quick access to field location and the pinpointing of malfunctioning parts for predictive maintenance and informed procurement.

Late last year A2B won a $70 million US Air Force contract to supply IUID labels and plates to installations around the world. The company has expanded its headquarters and is gearing up to fulfill that five-year commitment.

A2B VP Operations Tim Collins says, "Winning these military contracts, as well as many from DoD contractors, has placed A2B and Rhode Island in the forefront of the important IUID initiative with its cost containment and strategic ramifications. We are excited to play a key role in this ground breaking movement."
