GlobaLinks Partners With Colorado Carbon Fund To Offset Emissions From College Study Abroad Travel

GlobaLinks, parent company of the AustraLearn, AsiaLearn, EuroLearn study abroad programs, is partnering with the Colorado Carbon Fund, which supports clean energy projects in the state. In doing so, GlobaLinks is making a contribution to the fund for each student evaluation form received. The move is part of GlobaLinks' green initiatives, which include providing students with a departure package including "tips for traveling light," a reusable, recyclable shopping bag and a reusable water bottle.

Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) May 21, 2009 -- GlobaLinks, a leading provider of study abroad programs for college students, is partnering with the Colorado Carbon Fund to help green student travel overseas. The Colorado Carbon Fund, a program of the Governor's Energy Office (GEO), is the nation's first statewide carbon offsetting program.

GlobaLinks' new partnership with the Colorado Carbon Fund, to encourage students to offset emissions from air travel, builds on several existing green initiatives for students studying abroad. Students receive a departure package that includes "tips for traveling light," a reusable, recyclable shopping bag, and a reusable water bottle. Providing students with these items helps them to be prepared for cultural differences and to be environmentally conscious at the same time.

"GlobaLinks is pleased to make a contribution to the Colorado Carbon Fund for each student evaluation form received. To date, we've donated $634 and are pleased to help support innovative new clean-energy projects in our home state," said Cynthia Banks, GlobaLinks Executive Director.

GlobaLinks chose to support the Colorado Carbon Fund because the clean energy projects that result from the program will all be developed in Colorado. The Portland, Ore.-based Climate Trust, one of the country's most experienced offset project developers, has been enlisted by the GEO as a third-party organization to help select and manage Colorado's offset projects. Such projects could include methane capture at farms or solar water heating for recreation centers.

"Young people are engaged with the risks associated with global warming, and this partnership with GlobaLinks gives them yet another tool to help address greenhouse gas emissions, particularly the significant emissions tied to air travel," said Tom Plant, director of the GEO.
