Media Alert Healthcare Informatics Webinar: How to Extend the Hospital Health Portal to a Community HIE

Lahey Clinic shares patient data with physicians using Orion Health Concerto Physicians Portal allowing over 1000 unique users to access the system per day.

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) May 20, 2009 -- Lahey Clinic shares patient data with physicians using Orion Health Concerto Physicians Portal allowing over 1000 unique users to access the system per day.

News ImageWho: Lahey Clinic, a 500 member physician-led multidisciplinary group practice with a 317-bed hospital in Burlington, Massachusetts, found that their clinical data was spread through many disparate legacy systems, making reviewing the patient record time consuming for physicians.

Lahey aimed to improve access to patient information internally, as well as with the referring physician community, and to share patient information seamlessly. They needed a physician portal that provided a single-view of patient information including demographic data, appointment history, hospital admission history, and related providers.

What:    Peter K. Dempsey, MD, vice chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and chief medical informatics officer at Lahey Clinic, will illustrate how:

  • Lahey successfully deployed the Concerto™ Physician Portal from Orion Health, Inc., allowing over 1000 unique users to access the system per day
  • Lahey is already recognizing key benefits since implementation including faster access to a more comprehensive clinical record
  • Lahey is now rallying surrounding medical centers to create a regional Health Information Exchange (HIE), so that the local community of physicians can share health information for optimum patient care.

Since 2006, Dr. Dempsey has served as physician leader of Lahey's Medical Informatics Oversight Committee, helping to develop an enterprise-wide clinical informatics system and electronic medical records for Lahey's two acute-care medical centers and primary care practices. In his surgical practice, Dr. Dempsey specializes in brain tumors and spinal surgery. He has been co-director of Lahey's Brain Tumor Clinic since joining Lahey in 1992.
