Pat Mahony and Bud Gordon to Exhibit Their Collection of Still Life Paintings at the John Natsoulas Center for the Arts

The John Natsoulas Center for the Arts will feature a dynamic exhibition of two Californian painters and their work May 31 through July 5, 2009.

Davis, California (PRWEB) May 23, 2009

One of the top five painters in the Sacramento valley region, Pat Mahony will be exhibiting her portraits of lush landscapes and poignant still lifes at the John Natsoulas Center for the Arts, May 31 through July 5, 2009. Accompanying Mahony will be local Davis painter, Bud Gordon with his collection of vibrant still life paintings. This collaboration will culminate in a workshop lead by Mahony and an exclusive publication documenting her evolution as an artist.

Mahony demonstrates an extensive study of light, which is articulated through a strong sense of contrast. She has experimented with a variety of subjects from storefronts and industrial buildings to lush Californian landscapes and most recently, still lifes and pure black and white compositions.

After years of exploring tonal balance in her portraits, this current exploration of still lifes provides Mahony with an opportunity to discover new and interesting ways to present well-known, utilitarian or even trivial objects. Mahony's vision borders on abstraction through her contrasts of light and dark. She has shown in multiple California galleries, as well as the internationally known Allen Stone Gallery in New York City. This much-anticipated exhibit will be on display at the John Natsoulas Gallery for the month of June.

Bud Gordon is a local Davis artist presenting a new exhibition of still lifes. Having studied with such masters as Wayne Thiebaud and Manuel Neri, Gordon spent the last several years exploring how artwork can engage the viewer by creating surface interest. It is Gordon's belief that a painting should be interesting close-up as well as from a distance and this body of work exemplifies this particular dynamic.

This exhibit will be complimented by a four-hour workshop through which attendees can gain hands on experience in still life painting with Pat Mahony herself. In conjunction with the exhibit, the John Natsoulas Press will feature a new publication as a tribute to Mahony's work. This exclusive collection of over one hundred images, provides insight into her growth as an artist, chronicling her life including her creative influences and mentors.
