Manchester, UK (PRWEB) May 27, 2009
Swinton is warning motorists that all modifications whether cosmetic or performance-related may affect their car insurance premium and must be declared to their insurer.
Popular modifications include lowered suspensions, tinted windows, body kits and spoilers and non-standard alloys.
Even simple modifications such as customised paintwork or kitting your motor out with a non-standard in-car entertainment system can make your car more desirable to a thief and should therefore be referred to your insurer.
Steve Chelton, insurer development manager at Swinton said: "Motorists planning on modifying cars should always notify their insurer prior to the modification so they know exactly how much it will impact on their premium.
"We would also advise drivers protect their vehicle by adding an alarm, immobiliser or tracker device which can actually reduce car insurance quotes and premiums."
