Despite Challenges, American Workers Focusing on Health and Families

This release shares the results of a poll of American workers, the majority of whom say they are focusing their attention on their health and families rather than on steady flow of news about the difficulties they face.

Shelton, CT (PRWEB) May 27, 2009 — While it would be easy to focus on news about the challenges and difficulties they face these days, the majority of American workers are focusing more attention on their health and families, according to a new poll by LifeCare®, Inc., a leading provider of health and productivity solutions to employers nationwide.

Here are the full results of the poll, which was conducted during the month of April on LifeCare's private web site:

With so much negative news these days, what will you do to help rejuvenate yourself?

- Get outdoors, exercise and focus on my health – 50%
- Spend more quality time with my family – 19%
- Do some serious spring cleaning and have a yard sale – 11%
- Volunteer to help others who need more help than me – 8%
- Focus on my spiritual beliefs – 6%
Another five percent said that they will focus on "other" activities such as gardening and shopping.

"I think these poll results clearly show the resiliency of the American workforce," said LifeCare CEO, Peter G. Burki. "Naturally, there are things that employers can and should do to help workers maintain a positive outlook and stay focused during these challenging times. For example, we're encouraging clients to make sure employees take advantage of our health and wellness programs, stress management resources, and financial guidance tools."

Burki adds that these kinds of support tools are appreciated even more during challenging times and can significantly strengthen employee loyalty and commitment levels. Another LifeCare poll, conducted in September of 2008, found that 65 percent of workers said their loyalty to employers would be improved or significantly improved by having a wellness program available to them.
