Schutt Sports to be Official Base Supplier to Babe Ruth League and Cal Ripken Baseball

Kwik-Release™ Base will be Officially Recommended Base for All Leagues

Litchfield, Illinois (PRWEB) May 31, 2009 -- Since 1939, Major League Baseball™ players, including the Great Bambino himself, Babe Ruth, played on fields with Jack Corbett® Hollywood Bases® from Schutt Sports. Now, the organization formed over 50 years ago in The Babe's name has reached an agreement to put those same Hollywood® Brand bases on youth fields across the country.

Schutt Sports has reached a multi-year agreement with Babe Ruth League, Inc. to become the Official Base Supplier to BRL, as well as Cal Ripken Baseball. In addition, the Schutt Hollywood Kwik Release™ Base will become the Officially Recommended Base of BRL.

"It is a pleasure and honor to reach this agreement with the premier amateur baseball and softball program in the world," says Kip Meyer, Vice President and General Manager of Schutt Sports. "BRL has over 1 million players around the world and we're excited to know that they'll be playing the game they love safely on fields featuring the game's best disengaging bases."

The Schutt Hollywood® Kwik-Release™ base was introduced in 2007 and is the premier disengaging base on the market. The top layer of the base will detach from the bottom layer if enough force hits it, such as the force from a sliding runner. Medical research has shown that this type of quick-releasing base significantly reduces the risk of ankle, foot and leg injuries. The Kwik-Release base is also the easiest disengaging base to use, installing into the standard ground anchors already in use on most fields.

"As the Official Base Supplier to Major League Baseball™, we know how to make the best quality bases in the world," says Meyer. "What's just as important to us, however, is making sure that quality is available to younger players, teams and leagues. We're going to use this partnership with BRL to do just that."

Schutt will develop sales programs in conjunction with Babe Ruth League to make sure that teams and organizations can take advantage of the partnership.

"Babe Ruth League is excited about our new relationship with Schutt Sports," says Steven Tellefsen, President/CEO of BRL. "We'll be offering our membership the opportunity to purchase a quality base package from the BRL Store at a very reasonable price."

In addition to the base packages, Schutt Sports will be sponsoring a regional awards program called the Stolen Base Award, with trophies to be awarded at the nine BRL World Series. A national trophy will also be awarded, following a season-long internet contest. In addition, Schutt Sports has developed an entirely new line of lightweight, ventilated protective gear for BRL umpires. That line will be available for the 2010 season.

Plus, Schutt Sports and BRL will work together to develop premium fund-raising programs for their member organizations. Both Meyer and Tellefsen envision those programs featuring collectible versions of the on-field products: branded mini-helmets, full-size and mini bases, full-size and mini home plates, key chains and other products.

About Schutt Sports: Founded in 1918, Schutt Sports has grown from the back of a hardware store in Litchfield, Illinois to become the leading domestic manufacturer of batter's helmets. The USA Olympic softball team has won three gold medals and a silver, wearing Schutt batter's helmets. In addition, Schutt Sports is the Official Base Supplier to Major League Baseball™ and the Jack Corbett® Hollywood Base® has been on the field for every game since 1939. Schutt Sports is also the world's #1 maker of football helmets and faceguards.

About Babe Ruth League, Inc.: Formed over 55 years ago in Trenton, NJ, Babe Ruth League has grown to be the premier amateur baseball and softball program in the world, with over 1 million players on some 56,622 teams in more than 9000 leagues. BRL will play nine World Series this year and also features Cal Ripken Baseball. Starting in 1984, BRL added another dimension to its game - girls softball. Above all, BRL is of, by and for youth who want to play competitive baseball and softball.
