Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau Announces Destination Vallejo, California Photo Contest Winners

The Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau recently conducted its first Destination Vallejo Photo Competition using Flickr.com. This release announces the winners.

Vallejo, CA (PRWEB) May 29, 2009 -- The Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau recently announced the winner of their Destination Vallejo Photo Contest. The announcement came at the Vallejo CVB's annual Tourism Luncheon in May. Ron Becker's photograph of Vallejo showing the city at dusk with views of the Napa River and the Carquinez Strait was chosen from over 300 entries and earned Becker the grand prize of $500.

"We had tremendous interest in our photo contest with more than 40 photographers submitting entries," said Mike Browne, the bureau's Executive Director. "The judges had a very difficult time picking the winning photo."

Along with the $500 grand prize, ten additional photographs were selected with each one winning the photographer $100. Images were judged on portraying Vallejo as an attractive and exciting destination, originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit.

Photographs submitted for the contest will be featured in Destination Vallejo print and electronic marketing material produced by the Vallejo CVB. "Our contest was designed to showcase the best images we could get of our city," said Browne. "We are very excited about having all these great new photographs for our use in promoting our city. We will use many of them and do our best to give the photographer a credit where we can."

Winning photographer Ron Becker was born and raised in Vallejo and in 2007 retired as a Lieutenant from the Vallejo Police Department after more than 30 years of service. He became interested in photography in high school when he used to develop and print black and white photos in the family bathroom. He drifted away from it for a while due to his busy career but renewed his interest with the dawn of digital photography and has been a very active photography enthusiast for the past several years. The greatest pleasure he receives from photography is when others enjoy and appreciate his photos.

The ten runner-up photos that were selected as prize winners were entered by Ron Becker (two images), Tammy Bicknell (Vallejo), Nancy Chan (Vallejo), Debra Fuller (Vallejo), Michael Halberstadt (Alameda), Julio Mestros (Vallejo), Dragana Monson (Vallejo), David Yerzy (Vallejo), and Kenneth Zadwick (Vallejo).
