Last year, pet owners were up in arms over the carelessness that went into the distribution of contaminated pet food and rightfully so. Since then, many pet lovers have switched to feeding their dogs and cats organic foods. With as much press as this tragedy garnered, there was still the matter of parrots.
Since January 2003, long before this event was on the horizon, http://www.TotallyOrganics.com has been providing parrot owners with organic parrot food that does not rely on soy and peanut ingredients.
Completely organic and vegetarian, Totally Organics carries food that will not cause harm to birds and is tailored to what a winged pet needs.
The site's proprietor, Gudrun Maybaum, originally started selling parrot supplies, but when she couldn't find organic food that didn't contain soy or nuts, she took matters into her own hands.
"I created the recipe and we went ahead and started producing these pellets," she said of the origin of Totally Organics' parrot seed mix.
Over the last six years, Maybaum been at the helm of Totally Organics, continuingly creating new recipes and authoring a book on parrot health entitled "What Happened to My Peanuts: A Holistic Approach to Parrot Nutrition."
Maybaum's book has allowed her to be a speaker at conferences regarding the nutrition of birds and her extensive knowledge will no doubt be transferred over to Totally Organics' new blog, http://www.TOPSChatter.com.
"I'm going to continue to write and discuss nutrition facts," she said. "I think with the blog, getting news across can be an immediate action."
Totally Organics is providing a way for birds to eat well and it has been for some time, therefore bypassing the problems that the manufacturers of pet food had last year.
"Almost all of the pet food out there has artificial sugars and preservatives," Maybaum said. "We have a unique process of producing pellets and all of our food is natural, organic and is created to with birds in mind."
