Income Levels Increased for Low-Income Solar Power Program in Anaheim

Anaheim's single- family homeowners with less than average incomes will get solar power systems at a very affordable cost and reduce their electricity bills permanently, thanks to Vaha Solar and Anaheim's local power utility. The qualifying income levels increased from 60% to 75% of the state's meadian income

Anaheim, CA (PRWEB) May 30, 2009 -- Vaha Solar, one of the premier solar power providers of LA and Orange County, CA announced today that they have rolled out a new program that will reduce the cost of the solar power systems to a quarter of the current cost to low-income homeowners in Anaheim.

The goal of the program is to permanently lower the electricity bills of low-income families, who are effected the most from rising power costs. "In this economically challenging environment, we wanted to offer some relief to the homeowners from their utility bills." said Gaye Tomlinson, co-founder of Vaha Solar.

This is not the first time the company has brought very affordable solar power systems to low-income families. In March, they partnered with Anaheim Public Utilities and Habitat for Humanity to provide solar electricity to several homeowners in Anaheim. "We wanted to expand the program to a larger audience than only Habitat for Humanity families." said Tomlinson. "Through our joint effort with the local utility provider, we are able to offer an amazing value to more homeowners in Anaheim."

The systems that are designed for this program will save homeowners up to $800 on their electricity bills the first year. The savings will increase each year, since the electricity rates are likely to increase consistently, resulting in an impressive $43,500 during the lifetime of the system.

Solar power systems, also known as photovoltaic systems, have been gaining significant recognition since 2004, mainly due to the increasing cost of electricity and the global warming issues. Once installed, the solar power systems produce electricity from the sunlight with no carbon emissions . The cost of the systems have begun to come down recently of years due to the declining solar panel costs as well as rebates offered by the utility companies and the 30% federal tax credit on the installation cost. However, the final cost has still been high for the families with less than average incomes.

"We are happy to let the qualifying homeowners know that the cost of the system offered with this program is only a quarter of what other homeowners pay. This will hopefully make solar affordable for everyone, no matter what their income is." said Tomlinson.

To qualify for this program, the homeowner's income level should be at or below 75% of the state's median income. The families who are interested in the Income-Qualified Solar Home Program can contact Vaha Solar for further details.
