Bulgaria is Best for a Bargain Break this Summer
Post Office reveals Bulgaria is best destination to ease UK holidaymakers' foreign currency woes.
London, UK (PRWEB) May 31, 2009 -- The latest travel money Holiday Costs Barometer, a foreign currency information survey produced by Post Office Travel Services which compares the costs of tourist staples in foreign holiday destinations, has named Bulgaria as this summer's best value holiday spot. This makes Bulgaria one of the most attractive destinations for UK holidaymakers wanting to get the most from their travel money.
Bulgaria overtook last year's top trio of Thailand, South Africa and Egypt to claim the top spot in the annual foreign currency exchange ranking. A basket of 10 essential holiday items, including suncream, drinks and meals out, set tourists back just £42.23 in Bulgaria. This was more than two-and-a-half times cheaper than in Antigua, the most expensive destination surveyed, where the same shopping basket cost tourists £108.70 in travel money.
Turkey and Croatia joined Bulgaria as Europe's cheapest options for a bargain break, both clocking in at around £64 for the same basket of goods. But while attention has been focusing away from the eurozone, largely due to sterling's poor performance against foreign currencies, price cutting in some of the UK's traditional European favourites means tourists may get more than expected for their travel money.
Spain, at £67.08, was the cheapest eurozone destination, closely followed by Portugal at £67.47.
