United Hebrew Celebrates New Nursing and Rehabilitation Center - Single-Bedded Rooms Advance the Art of Caregiving
United Hebrew recently hosted a grand opening celebration in commemoration of its new nursing home and rehabilitation center.
New Rochelle, NY (PRWEB) June 1, 2009 -- United Hebrew recently hosted a grand opening celebration in commemoration of its new nursing home and rehabilitation center.
New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson spoke to the audience of more than 200 people, and News 12 News Director Janine Rose served as guest speaker. Rose spoke about her personal experiences with United Hebrew, where her great-aunt was a resident. Rita Mabli, United Hebrew's president/CEO, served as the emcee for the program and spoke about fulfilling the organization's dreams of a new home in their 90th year anniversary.
Area dignitaries who attended included New York State Assemblyman George Latimer; Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore; Westchester County Commissioner, Mae Carpenter, Department of Senior Programs and Services; New Rochelle City Manager, Charles Strome;; and New Rochelle Council people Barry Fertel, James Stowe, Marianne Sussman, Albert Tarantino and Louis Trangucci.
Michael Rozen, Chair of United Hebrew's Board of Directors, said that United Hebrew is well-positioned to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future and continue to serve as a leader in the field of aging services.
"There is no greater service than making a difference in the lives of those who need our help. Our spacious new home will enable our residents to have the very best environment in which to flourish and live well," Rozen said.
The Lucile & Joseph Skalet Pavilion, a 176-single-bedded-room residence, mimics individual neighborhoods and creates a strong sense of community. Amenities include wireless internet access in each room; a resident activity center, fully equipped with a library and an arts & crafts room; a 2,300-square-foot multi-purpose room and a café; a new receiving area and a beautifully-landscaped courtyard.
Each neighborhood, which has its own 800-square-foot activity room and rooms overlooking the beautiful Long Island Sound, is fully furnished with an entertainment center. Dining areas for each neighborhood measure about 800-square-feet and have views of the interior courtyard.
The short-term rehabilitation suite is overseen by world-renowned Burke Rehabilitation professionals and has a state-of-the-art rehabilitation gym, its own dining room and single-bedded rooms.
"Our new home is a model for meaningful and purposeful aging," said Malcolm Lazarus, Senior Chair, United Hebrew's Board of Directors, "This project has been a vision for 10 years, and today it is a reality. We couldn't be happier."
United Hebrew resident, Mrs. Mary Licini, and staff member Mertel Thomas also addressed attendees and shared their excitement about moving into the new home.
Construction on the new home began in September 2006 and an opening is scheduled for June 2009.
