Devoted Collector Must Part with Truly One-Of-A-Kind Bagpiper Collection
Making the move to a smaller home, Dr. Allan Minster (Dr. Al) must part with his beloved collection of bagpipers. The collection contains thousands of pieces gathered over decades from all over the world, each containing a portrayal of a bagpiper figure. Objects range from nutcrackers to fine porcelain figurines to paintings, dolls, ornaments, teddy bears and much, much more.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 2, 2009 -- Dr. Allan Minster (Dr. Al) always knew this time would come. For over 40 years, he and his wife Sheila lived, raised their three children and hosted many a grandchild's party within their sprawling ranch home North of Chicago. Now, the time has come to sell their home and move into a home that is more manageable, less expensive to upkeep and unfortunately, smaller. The problem? The new smaller living space won't fit Dr Al's bagpiper collection.
"I can't imagine giving up the bagpipers," says Dr. Al, "But for the sake of space, they have to go."
The Call of the Pipes
Dr. Al, a neurosurgeon from a Northern suburb of Chicago, first heard the bagpipes while attending a wedding at a Russian Orthodox cathedral. A bagpiper, dressed in full military attire, played the Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th symphony and Al was 'blown away' by the experience.
Sick of hearing him tell the story over and over, his wife Sheila bought him a bagpipe chanter and lessons with the Chicago Mayor's own band, The Shannon Rovers. Al learned the pipes well and has played with the Rovers ever since.
Around that time, he was given his first bagpiper figurine. It was like having his hobby given to him on a silver platter.
The Collection Grows
Once Al decided to collect bagpipers, there was no looking back. Besides the pipers he purchased on his own, his family and friends began gifting him with items at every occasion. No matter where they traveled, everyone kept their eyes out for bagpipers.
That diligence paid off by assuring that all corners of the world are represented in Al's collection. The true wonder of the collection is how it demonstrates that bagpipers play in almost every country on the globe.
The collection now contains thousands of pieces, each containing a portrayal of a bagpiper figure. Objects range from nutcrackers to fine porcelain figurines to paintings, dolls, ornaments, teddy bears and much, much more.
A Fond Farwell
Now that Al and Sheila's three children are grown and have moved out, the couple are selling their home and moving to a smaller space. For that reason, they have decided to sell this precious collection.
As hard as the decision was for Al, he looks forward to seeing his collection move into the hands of another bagpipe lover.
"I hope I can find someone with the same passion as I," says Dr. Al. "A collection this special deserves to continue on with someone who will cherish it as much as I did."
