Appleby is the longest running broadcaster at one station in Connecticut
Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) June 3, 2009 -- Tom Appleby, a well-known figure to News 12 Connecticut viewers as the evening news anchor and News Director, is celebrating 25 years with News 12 Networks. Today and every weekday, Appleby anchors the evening news on News 12 Connecticut, and also hosts the weekly political program, "Focus on Connecticut," as well as the weekly high school academic competition, "The Challenge."
Appleby has been News Director and an Anchor of News 12 Connecticut since May 23, 1984, and is the longest running broadcaster in Connecticut on one station. News 12 Connecticut consistently wins awards for their reporting, most notably, the Connecticut Associated Press' highest honor, the Mark Twain Award for overall excellence, which they have won for the past two years.

In the 25 years that Appleby has been News Director and anchor of News 12 Connecticut, the channel has won more than 600 major awards, including 33 Regional Edward R. Murrow awards and 2 National Edward R. Murrow awards, 15 New York Emmy Awards, 5 New England Emmy awards, 75 Associated Press Awards, 100 awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, and 55 New England Cable Telecommunications Association awards. News 12 Connecticut was the first recipient of the Associated Press Mark Twain award for Station Excellence in Connecticut. Appleby has Masters and Doctoral degrees in English Literature from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. Prior to entering broadcasting, Appleby was a tenured lecturer at The City College of New York.
