NYC, NY (PRWEB) June 3, 2009 -- The Council for Economic Education and HSBC-North America today announced the opening of the HSBC National Center for Economic and Financial Education, on June 4, 2009. The Center is unprecedented; the only venue of its kind in New York City and the announcement was made by Dr. Robert Duvall, President & CEO of the Council and Matthew Smith, Senior Executive Vice President of Network Strategy for HSBC - North America, also a Council board member.

"The new National Center will be the epi-center of economic and financial education in action," said Robert Duvall. "We are very proud to open our doors to the millions of New Yorkers who recognize, like our partner HSBC-North America, that today more than ever financial and economic education is vital to all people, beginning in K-12 while young and continuing throughout adulthood."

The National Center has been created to be a hub for innovative and state-of-the-art teaching materials and programs in economic and financial education. Educational programs will be piloted and field-tested; research and evaluation of programs will be conducted; and panels featuring economic educators, teachers, prominent economists, business leaders, and policy-makers will be held to discuss topics relevant to economic and personal finance education. And as part of the National Center's mission to increase the awareness of economic education, domestic and international visitors will be invited to visit and view the National Center's broad array of financial, economic and entrepreneurial education programs.

"HSBC has supported the Council for Economic Education for more than 40 years, and is particularly proud of our newest partnership in launching this vital Center," said Matthew Smith of HSBC. "As a global financial services company committed to education, we share the Council's vision that sound economic education is key to developing life skills of today's youth. We look forward to a successful partnership with the Council on this exciting venture."

A ceremony celebrating the launch of the National Center will take place on June 4, 2009 at the Council headquarters in New York City. Distinguished speakers include Joel Klein, Chancellor, New York City Schools, Jonathan Mintz, Commissioner, New York City Department of Consumer Affairs; Founder & Co-Chair, National Cities for Financial Empowerment; Coalition; Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott; Craig Donohue, CEO, CME Group, and Matthew Smith of HSBC.
