Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 3, 2009
The Golden Trailer Awards®, the world's top prize for movie trailers, will celebrate its tenth edition this year with a live show at the Director's Guild of America, 7920 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles 90046. Multi-talented comedian, actor and writer Dean Edwards ("Saturday Night Live", dailycomedy.com) will host the gala event. Tickets are available on http://goldentrailer.com.
Nominees and a prominent panel of industry judges were also announced today by Golden Trailer® event co-founders and producers Evelyn Brady-Watters and Monica Brady.
Created in 1999 to celebrate the art, craft and fun of movie promotion, The Golden Trailer Awards have established themselves as the top prize in the field, coveted by trailer producers and studio marketing executives, but also eagerly anticipated by movie fans around the globe.
Says Brady-Watters "In the ten years since we established the Golden Trailer Awards, not only have we become a fixture in the industry, but trailers themselves have emerged as the single most important and creative element of movie marketing. Worldwide, they are now one of the most popular categories of online streaming video, and are viewed as a form of entertainment in and of themselves."
In a gala laced with comedy and entertainment, 16 of the 61 categories of Golden Trailer Awards® will be distributed at the gala show, with slots ranging from the expected--Best Action Trailer, Best Romance, Best Summer Blockbuster, etc.--to the irreverent, including The Golden Fleece trophy applauding the best reel for a bad movie, and the self-explanatory Trashiest Trailer. This year, the long-established award for Best Voice Over has been renamed the Don LaFontaine Award for Best Voice Over, to honor the memory of the man whose voice set the industry standard for trailer narration. LaFontaine, passed away in 2008.
Brady-Watters noted, "The Best Voice Over category existed to begin with because Don LaFontaine. His voice was a critical part of so many winning trailers across all categories--too numerous to count-- and was, in and of itself, the mark of excellence in trailer narration."
The nominees are listed below. The full list of award categories and nominees covering U.S. and international entries, movie posters and advertising, TV Spots and more can be found on http://www.goldentrailer.com.
This year's major sponsors include USA Today, Porsche, JetBlue Airways, fashion house Carasan, and Dos Equis.
Industry notables making up the 2009 jury include Rosario Dawson, star of such films as "Eagle Eye," "Rent," and the upcoming animated film "Wonder Woman"; Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, writers on both of the hit "Night at the Museum" films and TV series Reno 911!; three-time Emmy-nominated writer-director Paul Feig ("Arrested Development," "The Office," "30 Rock"); Dade Hayes, an acclaimed author on entertainment marketing, and a former writer and editor for Variety and Entertainment Weekly; award-winning comedy writer Frank Santopadre; Los Angeles Times chief critic Kenneth Turan; noted entertainment attorney and independent film producer Jonathan Gray; and German producing partners Max Wiedemann and Quirin Berg, whose film "The Lives of Others" won over 80 international awards including the 2007 Oscar® for Best Foreign Language Film.
