Established in 1992 as Excel Computer Ltd., the company made its start as a full line IT supplier of computer, software and networking solutions. Established in 1992 as Excel Computer Ltd., the company made its start as a full line IT supplier of computer, software and networking solutions. EMD evolved to where it is today focusing on network attached storage such as CD and DVD server solutions and then migrating to related technologies such as Network Attached Filers, RAID and Storage Area Networks.
Excel Computer acquired the CD-ROM business division (Meridian Data) of Quantum in March 2000, who specialized in network attached optical storage solutions. Excel Computer, Ltd. then became Excel Meridian Data, Inc.
