Dad doesn't need to worry about being overlooked this year, regardless of grim economic tidings. It might not be the best year to fly him out to Hawaii for that dream golf trip he's always wanted, but that doesn't mean consumers won't be spending on this major holiday. According to the National Retail Federation's latest Consumer Intentions and Actions report 75.4% of adults will be shopping for their dad. Shoppers will be spending an average of $90.89 on Father's Day gifts in 2009, and traditional gifts seem to be the big winners this season.
The NRF's survey says that $1.9 billion will be spent on outings for dad, including dinner at a favorite restaurant, or maybe a local sporting event. Close behind is the perennial favorite, clothing, at a projected $1.3 billion this year. Gift cards, electronics and home improvement products follow with $1.2 billion, $1.0 billion and $522 million respectively.
Both brick-and-mortar and web-based retailers will be competing aggressively for those dollars this year. Discounts and sales are the name of the game in the coming weeks, and consumers will find themselves in a great position to save. That's where NexTag.com comes in, offering its visitors incredible price and seller comparison tools to make finding bargains a snap.
