D.A. Watt Consulting Recognized for Supporting Canadian Forces Reservists

An engineering company with a strong sense of national pride, D.A. Watt Consulting has recently been awarded two of eighteen national awards for outstanding support to Canada's Reserve Forces. David Watt, P.Eng, president of the firm was on hand to accept the awards in a ceremony held in Ottawa on June 8th. D.A. Watt Consulting is a Calgary-based consulting practice which provides civil Engineering, Transportation engineering and Geomatics solutions for private- and public-sector clients in southern Alberta and the Okanogan. Five of the firm's 70 employees are members of the Primary Reserves.

In a ceremony at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa on 5 June 2009, D.A. Watt Consulting received two of eighteen national awards for outstanding support to Canada's Reserve Force; Most Supportive Employer, Alberta and the Special Award for Support to the Reserve Force. The Eighth Biennial National Employer Support Awards were presented by the Canadian Forces Liaison Council (CFLC) to recognize and honour private business, government and educational institutions for their support of the Primary Reserve Force.

David Watt, President, accepted the award on behalf of D.A. Watt Consulting. The firm was nominated by Second-Lieutenant Jordan Hons of 41 Combat Engineer Regiment, Calgary, Alberta. D.A. Watt Consulting is a Calgary-based civil Engineering and Geomatics firm that provides technical solutions for private- and public-sector clients in southern Alberta and the Okanagan. Five of the firm's 70 employees are members of the Primary Reserve.

Fifteen organizations from across Canada received awards for their outstanding support to Canada's Reserve Force. The ceremony, attended by General Walter Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, Mr. David Bronconnier, Mayor of the City of Calgary, and other senior civilian and military personnel, was hosted by well-known broadcast journalist Mr. Don Newman.

The CFLC is a group of civilian business leaders and educators who volunteer their time and effort to promote the primary Reserve Force - Canada's part-time military - by highlighting the benefits of Reserve Force training and experience to the civilian workplace.

The mandate of the CFLC is to enhance the availability of Reservists for military duty by obtaining the support and co-operation of organization leaders in Canada. The CFLC's vision is that all organization leaders in Canada actively support Reservists.

Official awards ceremonies provide a way to recognize supportive employers nominated by individual Reservist employees. These awards support the mission of the CFLC: To educate organization leaders on the CF Reserves and encourage them to support training and operations with minimal impact on the Reservist.
