Revolutionary New Invention for Onsite Food Production Facilities for Institutions or Families Achieves Patent Pending Status

Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems (Patent Pending) Grows Vegetables and Home- Grown Fish in a Small Space and Requires Very Little Water, Low Maintenance and No Fertilizers, Herbicides, or Pesticides.

San Diego, California (PRWEB) June 11, 2009 -- Since Portable Farms LLC http://www.portablefarms.com launched their new invention for onsite food production facilities one year ago on June 17, 2008, they have received thousands of inquires from people in 150 counties. In just the past five months, they have conducted nearly 4,000 private-appointment tours of the three Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems at their company headquarters in Escondido, California.

Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems is ideally suited for onsite food production for institutional or commercial growing, and also for backyard farms. Colle Davis, Inventor of Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems offers a patent-pending solution to solve the problems of the degradation of food being shipped long distances, current and impending water shortages and the rising cost of food and its availability.

Mr. Davis has been refining his invention since 1971 when he was a student at University of California at Davis working to reduce the chronic problems of tank sediment. He recently designed a new pumping system that solved all the clogging problems in the fish tank and made it possible for the system to automatically remove the sediments from the fish tank. This new pumping system makes it possible to fully automate the farm using his own unique engineering and technology, so that institutions or families can raise their own food and become self-sustaining.

What Portable Farms LLC offers:
Portable Farms LLC is proud to offer fully installed, turn-key Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems (patent pending) to customers throughout the United States and Canada using our network of authorized Sales and Installation Representatives.
Yearly Production from one Portable Farms™ Aquaponics System (patent pending)

A single 90' x 120' (30m x 33m) unit produces 60,000 vegetables and 23,000 lbs (10,400 kgs) of fish per year

A single 20' x 30' (6m x 9m) two tank unit produces 3,600 vegetables and 1,400 lbs (635 kgs) of fish per year

A single 10' x 20' (3m x 6m) unit produces 1,100 vegetables and 400 lbs (180 kgs) of fish per year

A single 6' x 8' (1.8m x 2.5m) unit produces 400 vegetables and 100 lbs (45 kgs) of fish per year

Although aquaponics (the simplest definition being "the symbiotic cultivation of plants and aquatic animals in a recirculating environment") has been around in various forms for thousands of years, Portable Farms LLC has devised proprietary ways to produce yields that fall well within established production parameters for existing aquaponics systems, but with a much more stable system requiring less intervention, featuring much greater environmental sustainability, when compared to competing technology:

No chemicals (that means no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides), fertilizers, nutrients, antibiotics or buffers need to be added to the system to enhance the growth and the health of the plants and fish, and there is no need to continuously monitor the nutrient levels, pH, salinity, oxygen or anything else in the water or gravel. Through June 2009, the longest continuously running unit is approaching 18 months of operation from inception without breaking down or requiring anything besides routine maintenance - it even survived an 11 mile journey from its original location to its current location, where the same live fish were reintroduced to the same, reassembled unit and production resumed unabated.

The system self-regulates in extreme environments, meaning comparable yield is generated even when running Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems in hot desert or wintry climate - although a greenhouse or other protection from the extreme elements is required, the ambient environment surrounding each unit does not have to remain within tightly controlled temperature and humidity ranges for the Portable Farms™ Aquaponics System to function well. With existing grow lamps, Portable Farms™ Aquaponics System can thrive in low sunlight environments, even basements and warehouses.

Daily operations and maintenance can be accomplished by a responsible 14 year-old for units as large as 20' x 30' in as little as 10 minutes per day. A single person, with proper training, can operate and maintain over one (1) acre of Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems. The smaller units can be left alone for up to four days with NO attention or maintenance, if necessary. Planting can be on a continuous basis to maintain maximum production; batch growing is not necessary.

The energy requirement for a 20' x 30' (6m x 9m) one tank unit normally runs on 12 to 60 watts, with spikes that never exceed 360 watts (assuming no grow lights are utilized) - normal usage on competing technology is much higher, typically in the range of 500-1,500 watts. As units are aggregated, these savings prove to be substantial. Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems are designed to be compatible with existing solar panels, permitting the use of Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems in distant rural locations without access to an electrical grid.

The system has been designed to prevent catastrophic loss of fish (a common hazard in existing technology) and to minimize greatly the effects of a power failure or technical problem by eliminating the risk of a cascading failure in larger installations.

Like other true aquaponics systems, fresh water usage and waste is dramatically curtailed (a small fraction of the fresh water required to irrigate a comparable number of vegetables planted in the ground).

Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems aspire to be Carbon Negative in terms of their impact on global warming. This would be in addition to delivering significant amounts of fresh produce and low-fat protein to local populations in a truly sustainable manner.

Portable Farms LLC would like to welcome Marcus Klebe, Executive Vice President and General Counsel. He brings to the company a strong record of success in resolving complex issues in a strategic and timely manner, excellent leadership and communication skills, and a keen awareness of process management and brand image.

Mr. Klebe received a B.A. both in Political Science and German Literature from Amherst College in 1996, graduating cum laude and spending his junior year abroad at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg, Germany. He received his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1999 and is admitted to practice law in the States of California and New York.

Affordable Family Farms http://affordablefamilyfarms.com, owned and operated by Ed and Lisa Jackson, will be displaying two Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems at the San Diego County Fair from June 12 to July 5, 2009. Ed Jackson is quoted as saying, "FOOD is the next precious resource."

Backyard Aquafarms http://backyardaquafarms.com owned and operated by Lane McClelland and Laurie Roberts will also be displaying a Portable Farms™ Aquaponics System at the San Diego County Fair. The San Diego County Fair is the fifth largest fair in the nation and is the largest annual event in San Diego County. In 2008, the San Diego County Fair had over 1.2 million visitors.
