Illinois School Districts Choose Innovative Curriculum Solutions from Pearson for 2009-10 School Year
Educators Opt for Mixture of Print and Digital Components Designed to Personalize Learning and Prepare Students for College.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 16, 2009 -- For the coming school year, thousands of elementary, middle and high school students across Illinois will be learning with a vast array of solutions from the education and technology company Pearson. New curriculum purchases aligned to state standards and designed to prepare students for the rigors of college coursework span the range of disciplines from math and science to social studies, reading and literature, beginning in kindergarten.
High school districts in Illinois' Lake, Will, Kendall and Kane counties are some of the first in the country to opt for the new "Miller & Levine Biology" program that takes a bold approach to science instruction, combining the power of new technology with a proven foundation of academic success.
Illinois' Yorkville High School recently chose the new "Miller & Levine Biology" based on the school's satisfaction and success with previous editions. Yorkville belongs to a district that maintains a deep commitment to preparing students to live and work in a technological society, focusing on 21st century skills like problem solving, thinking critically and communicating effectively, according to biology teacher Harry Wolf.
Wolf said his teachers were impressed with the new layout, content and individualized approach in "Miller & Levine Biology." He added, "We particularly like the fact that we can differentiate instruction with the new program's Foundations and Spanish versions, meaning we can customize the program to meet our needs. In addition, we are excited about using the digital path with our students more in the future."
Authored by internationally renowned scientist-authors, Ken Miller and Joe Levine, this new program includes a dynamic digital path which offers students and teachers a wealth of engaging activities and information, including virtual labs, complete online student and teacher editions of the textbooks, editable worksheets, interactive study guides, fun science games and online assessments.
Additionally, the adventures of Pearson's team of young globe-trotting "untamed scientist" videographers bring students directly into the process of discovery through science reality videos that accompany each chapter's theme.
Many Illinois middle and high school students will also be learning from Pearson's Prentice Hall Literatureprogram, a comprehensive curriculum that seamlessly combines digital and print elements to engage and motivate students through personalized instruction.
"The Prentice Hall Literature integrated program creates a new standard for today's literature classroom by offering a completely digital alternative to complement the print textbooks, meeting students on their digital turf. At the same time, the program saves teachers time by providing easy-to-use tools to help plan lessons, manage resources, meet standards and connect with students, including English learners," said Pat McHugh, Pearson's vice president for Illinois.
This fall Illinois' thousands of secondary students will learn from Pearson social studies curriculum solutions, including America: History of our Nation, Prentice Hall United States History, and Magruder's American Government, and Pearson math programs, including Algebra 2, Prentice Hall Middle School Math and High School Mathematics.
Students in numerous Illinois districts are already learning with Pearson's innovative, research-based elementary programs, including Reading Street and enVisionMATH, with many more schools purchasing these programs for the upcoming school year.
To ensure successful program implementation, embedded professional development accompanies each of Pearson's curriculum programs. This professional development can be customized to meet the specific needs of any district at any discipline level. In addition to on-site training, Pearson offers web-based product training in the form of self-paced modules and instructor-led webinars - available at each educator's convenience, 24 hours a day, seven days a week at www.mypearsontraining.com.
