Singapore (PRWEB) June 17, 2009 -- Information technology projects to empower the workforce, improve customer service and to streamline supply chain operations are among the 45 finalists in one of the Asia Pacific region's most prestigious IT management award competitions.

These MIS Asia magazine IT Excellence Awards recognise Asian IT organisations and CIOs for excellence in management and for using information technology to attain business goals. The annual awards represent one of the few such independent assessments which involve countries across the region.

MIS Asia magazine - www.mis-asia.com - published by Fairfax Business Media Asia, is the region's leading user-focused IT management magazine circulated to more than 10,000 CIOs and senior IT executives in Asia's large to medium-sized enterprises, encouraging business-guided IT strategy by offering case studies and best practices.

Fairfax Business Media Managing Editor, and MIS Asia magazine Editor Ross O. Storey said that, given the current economic downturn, the enthusiasm of the response to the call for nominations for the 2009 awards was impressive.

"Even with the financial crisis, the number of nominations we received shows that Asia Pacific enterprises are continuing to cleverly innovate with their use of IT systems, despite the unprecedented cost constraints facing business today," Storey said. "If necessity is the mother of invention, then the economic downturn has certainly stimulated many enterprises to better use IT to become more efficient.

"The IT Excellence Awards are now established as a prestigious recognition of high quality IT management practice in the Asia region."

Five independent expert judges, from across the region, are now involved in stage two of the assessment process. The 8 overall award winners will only be announced at a gala event in Singapore, on the evening of Friday, 24 July at the conclusion of the Fairfax Business Media flagship annual MIS Asia IT Summit, which, this year, has the theme 'Enterprise IT in 2009: Caution, Consolidation and Cost Control'."
