Lake Forest, CA (PRWEB) June 17, 2009 -- GoScan® today announced that the United States Marine Corps. (USMC) has successfully implemented its scanning software to process thousands of forms that accompany combat equipment shipments. Recently, more than 8,000 documents were processed in one week at one base.
Logistics have been a critical part of military operations since Alexander the Great. In modern times, Lt. Gen. Fredrick Franks was quoted as saying "Forget logistics, you lose." GoScan is being used by Marine Aviation Logistic Squadrons (MALS) which are charged with providing aircraft parts, maintenance equipment and ammunition to Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) squadrons. GoScan to automatically scans and indexes paperwork for requisitioning, storing, and transporting equipment required to maintain the combat readiness.
Thousands of equipment items are received every week for military aircraft ranging from windshields and brakes to seat frames and bearings. Each product shipment includes receipts that contain multiple barcodes which provide the details for each particular shipment. GoScan enables these barcode receipts to be quickly and accurately filed into an electronic document imaging system where they can be retrieved instantly when needed by the logistics team.
"Using a barcode scanning gun was not an option because they were too slow and could not store a picture of each form," said Mike Stuhley, GoScan president and CEO. "Combined with an off-the-shelf document scanner, GoScan's software can rapidly scan and read all of the required information. The USMC selected GoScan because it was extremely easy to use and would enable new Marines assigned to this duty to quickly get up to speed on how to operate the system."
GoScan's ultra simple interface allows users with minimal computer skills to sit at the scanning station and begin the capture process immediately. Users simply load the paper in the scanner's feeder and press the large green "GoScan" button on the computer screen.
"The USMC is extremely happy with the simplicity of the scanning process provided by GoScan," Stuhley said. "They also are pleased with the affordable price point which allows them to install the system at multiple sites worldwide."
With GoScan, thousands of documents can be scanned, indexed and uploaded every day, giving the Marines instant access to their electronic documents wherever and whenever the need arises.
