Geelong, Victoria (PRWEB) June 20, 2009
http://www.visitgreatoceanroad.org.au marks an exciting move forward for the Geelong Otway Region of the Great Ocean Road which will be formally launching it as their new official website on June 30th, 2009.
The "VisitGreatOceanRoad" name of the site is in line with the tourism identity across Australia, with other tourism bodies such as Tourism Victoria and corresponding website VisitVictoria setting the trend.
Adopting a simple approach in an attempt to appeal to all age groups, the Visitgreatoceanroad website is very user-friendly with an appealing aqua blue-turquoise colour scheme. Navigation of the site is broken down into obvious categories, specifically the destinations along the Great Ocean Road by region, how to get there, what to do, and where to stay.
A featured accommodation search function is included with the website to aid travellers searching for accommodation along the Great Ocean Road. With towns such as Apollo Bay, Lorne, and Queenscliff being notoriously booked out during peak season, this facility also includes the budget options of youth hostels, campsites, and caravan parks.
With much of the information from the previous Great Ocean Road website being amalgamated with VisitGreatOceanRoad.org.au, it is anticipated that it will quickly become the most comprehensive source of information about the Geelong Otway Region of the Great Ocean Road.
One town featured prominently on the Visitgreatoceanroad website is Geelong, as it is just 20 minutes from Avalon Airport (the closest airport to the Great Ocean Road). Until recently, visitors travelling from Melbourne or Ballarat had to travel through Geelong first, so the Great Ocean Road Visitor Information Office was located on the outskirts of Geelong in Corio to accommodate this. Though the opening of the Ring Road has meant this is no longer the case, many visitors to the Great Ocean Road still do travel via the Geelong route.
Directions and details for the Geelong-based information centre are included on the VisitGreatOceanRoad site, along with a list of all the other Visitor Information Offices in the region.
The new VisitGreatOceanRoad website couldn't have come at a better time, according to Geelong Otway Tourism's Chief Executive Roger Grant, visibly delighted at the recent results issued by the renowned Australian Traveller magazine regarding the top 100 towns to visit in Australia. Apollo Bay, Lorne, and Queenscliff - all located within the Geelong Otway Region of the Great Ocean Road - placed 9th, 14th, and 29th respectively.
Terry Hickey, Deputy Chief Executive of Geelong Otway Tourism is responsible for the promotion and development of the new visitgreatoceanroad website project. He believes this latest acclaim by Aussie travel magazine is a boon to local tourism, formally echoing the published sentiments of both Conde Nast magazine ("visiting the Great Ocean Road is the journey of a lifetime") and the US travel guide Frommers, which listed it as one of the top ten road trips worldwide.
Located in South West Victoria, Australia, the Great Ocean Road is one of the most spectacular scenic routes in the world. For more information regarding the http://www.visitgreatoceanroad.org.au website, contact Terry Hickey on +61 35223 2588.
