What's Buried in Mrs. Maloney's garden?

A dead cat? Perhaps. A dead kid? More than likely.

(PRWEB) June 20, 2009 -- After all, kids say the crabby, old lady rides around on a broom all night and snatches kids right from their beds; they're never seen again.

Curious, four boys set out to dig up the garden one night. What they find is sure to raise the little hairs on the back of your neck.

That's the intriguing plot at the heart of Mrs. Maloney's Garden, a delightful new work of fun and fiction from the creative pen of Ontario-based author Joy Lynn Goddard.

Goddard, a teacher and former journalist, has a marvelous knack for seeing the world through the eyes of her young characters, writing with an easygoing charm.

That winning quality has been fully apparent through her earlier published works, particularly her popular Northview Tales series, which includes Daredevils, Charlie's Song and Hello, my name is Emily. Mrs. Maloney's Garden is simply the latest in a long line of winning fiction for children and young adults.

But in this book there's an educational twist to the whimsical tale - Goddard takes her readers on an actual tour of the garden. Readers will learn all about gardening from an expert - Mrs. Maloney. Although written for kids from nine to twelve years old, this book is suitable for older kids who want to use it as a reference on gardening.

Along with the tale, you'll love the illustrations in this book. They are quirky and vibrant, created by Guelph author Ann Boyle along with Grade Six, Seven and Eight students from Holy Trinity Catholic School in Guelph.

Readers can learn more about the works of author Joy Lynn Goddard at her website: www.northviewtales.com.

Books are available at www.indigo.ca and www.amazon.com.
