Local News Joins M&M Tool and Machinery to Cook Breakfast With Power Tools
M&M Tool and Machinery finds innovative ways to spice up the kitchen by cooking with industrial power tools. With the help of local FOX13 personality, Big Budah, M&M Tool shows how power tools can be more multi-faceted than any craftsmen ever thought.
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) June 20, 2009 -- On June 16, 2009 FOX13's Big Budah and camera crew joined the guys and girls at M&M Tool and Machinery to prepare a gourmet breakfast with power tools. A task that initially struck some as crazy or impossible quickly turned skeptics into believers with fresh scrambled eggs, golden French toast, ham, sausage and fresh fruit. The breakfast was a success, even the Big Budah himself tried his hand with a miter saw, and reciprocating saw, and taunted his culinary skills on a griddle powered with industrial heat guns.
First the crew at M&M Tool sliced fresh fruit with some heavy duty power tools. As it turns out, specialty industrial and woodworking tools are just as effective in the kitchen as they are on the jobsite. Annette sliced strawberries with a Dremel Multi-Max. The Multi-Max is lightweight and ideal for renovation and repair work. "With so many blade options the Multi Max removes tile, cuts molding, removes grout, and the list only goes on," said Annette. Next, Monte carved orange wedges with a Bosch 1640VS undercut saw. The saw is comfortable to use, and with advanced vibration control, the tool performs industrial cutting applications with ease. Mike sliced watermelon with a Robert Larsen Ryoba Noka Japanese carpenters saw. This handsaw is built with a thin, replaceable blade that cuts on the pull stroke rather than the push stroke for faster, closer cuts. "The blade is hardened for strength, and is double sided; one side specifically designed for rip cuts and the other for cross cuts making this hand-tool super versatile," said Mike. Corbin sliced pineapple with a Makita BJR181 reciprocating saw. The saw, generally used for demolition and industrial applications, cut through the pineapple effortlessly. "This particular Makita recip saw uses Lithium Ion batteries so the tool is ultra lightweight and maneuverable," Corbin said.
Next, Big Budah and the M&M crew began mixing eggs for French toast batter and scrambled eggs. M&M Tool's Amy demonstrated Hitachi's DV18DL impact driver driving a standard and hex screw into a stack of stock lumber. Big Budah then (excitedly) took over whipping eggs with a Makita BHP452HW variable speed drill. "Simply release the drill bit and insert a whisk or beater. The chuck will tighten around the beater and you're all set to mix some batter," Amy explained. Britt used a Dewalt DC925KAR reconditioned drill to mix French toast batter. Reconditioned tools are tools that have been returned to the factory for minor cosmetic or technical defects. They then undergo stringent reconstruction and testing to meet rigid factory standards before being put back on the market at a fraction of the price. In addition to eggs and batter, Tony, an M&M Tool veteran, mixed fresh orange juice with an industrial Bosch drill fitted with a wire whisk.
Big Budah, with the encouragement of his friends at FOX13's Good Morning Utah, again took the reins slicing a loaf of French bread with a Dewalt DW718 miter saw. With superior precision, the saw cut the bread into perfect slices for French toast. Next, Jeff used a Fein MultiMaster to slice sausage patties from a thick, frozen sausage link. The MultiMaster utilizes oscillation technology for specialty applications like renovation and restoration. "The tool is lightweight and ideal for everyone from commercial workers to your average homeowner," Jeff said. Corbin then moved to a Delta 28-180 band saw to slice into a breakfast ham. Band saws are built for tight-radius cuts like curves and shapes, but it sliced the ham with perfect precision into slices as thick or thin as desired.
Lastly, Big Budah and M&M Tool's Mallory demonstrated their culinary abilities at the skillet. The skillets were heated with Makita HG1100 and Bosch 1942 variable temperature heat guns. Each of the guns heats to approximately 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. With the capacity to thaw frozen pipes, loosen tiles, remelt adhesives, and strip paint and varnish, the heat guns prepared the French toast, ham and sausage to a golden, glazed brown, and scrambled the eggs faultlessly. The only thing left to do then was enjoy the fruits (and French toasts) of their labor, and eat a surprisingly good breakfast made with some, clearly, very versatile power tools.
