Fontana Water Company Promotes Innovative Water Conservation Measures California PUC Water Action Plan Serves As A Model for Action

Fontana Water Company is working closely with customers to reduce water use by 10% in its service territory this year. Fontana Water Company is asking all customers to take a few simple steps to increase water conservation efforts as the hottest months of the year approach. "A ten percent reduction this year is our goal and we think that can be easily met by taking the following no or low cost water-saving measures," said Darleen Chaputa, conservation coordinator at Fontana Water Company.

Fontana, Calif. (PRWEB) June 21, 2009 -- Fontana Water Company is asking all customers to take a few simple steps to increase water conservation efforts as the hottest months of the year approach.

Conservation kits which include a low-flow showerhead, faucet aerators and toilet leak detection tablets are available free to customers at the Fontana Water Company office (8440 Nuevo Avenue, Fontana).

"A ten percent reduction this year is our goal and we think that can be easily met by taking the following no or low cost water-saving measures," said Darleen Chaputa, conservation coordinator at Fontana Water Company.

  • Don't flood landscaped areas or allow run-off in gutters, waterways, patios, driveways, or streets. Use timers on sprinklers. Timers are available through Fontana Water Company.
  • Don't wash cars or other vehicles without a positive shut-off nozzle (one that seals completely) on the hose (some commercial or fleet washing facilities have special equipment that prevents overflow).
  • Don't wash buildings, sidewalks, driveways, patios, parking lots, tennis courts, or other hard-surfaced areas without a shut-off nozzle on the hose. Sweep when at all possible or use pressure washers that do not use as much water.
  • Don't water streets with trucks, except for initial wash-down for construction purposes (if street sweeping is not feasible), or to protect the health and safety of the public.
  • Minimize water for construction purposes; use tarps over loose dirt or soil to minimize dust.
  • Limit outside plant watering to no more than every other day and be sure to use a hand-held hose with a shut-off valve or timers on your sprinklers. Water in the early morning or late in the evening to avoid quick evaporation.
  • Minimize use of water for decorative fountains or filling or topping off decorative lakes or ponds.
  • Restaurants should serve water to patrons only upon request.

"As Governor Schwarzenegger has called on Californians to conserve during this ongoing drought, we believe our customers can achieve a reduction on a voluntary basis," said Chaputa.

"Replace your old toilet with a low-flow or high-efficiency toilet and consider replacing your washing machine with a new high-efficiency washing machine," encouraged Chaputa. "We want all customers to cut back on non-essential water use and preserve precious local water supplies."

Fontana Water Company has provided a reliable supply of safe, clean drinking water to Fontana residents since 1924. For more information, visit www.FontanaWater.com.
