Iran Blocks Access to the Chopra Center's Web Site, Podcasts, and Blogs

In the wake of Iran's disputed presidential elections, the Ahmadinejad regime has stepped up its censorship of independent media and web sites, including information on mind-body healing, meditation, yoga, and Ayurveda offered at www.chopra.com

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 22, 2009 -- The Chopra Center web site has joined the ranks of more than five million Internet sites banned by the Iranian government since 2008. In the days following Iran's presidential elections, the Iranian government has clamped down on Internet access, banning or limiting access to news and social media websites including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

"Iranian citizens who previously had access to the Chopra Center's online resources, podcasts, and blogs can no longer get the information they are seeking because of this most recent crackdown by Iran's government," said the Chopra Center's chief operating officer and lead educator, David Greenspan.

"We have received emails from Iranians who have managed to communicate with us despite the ban, and are deeply inspired by their persistence in the face of censorship," David Greenspan said.

The Chopra Center is a California-based health and wellness center founded by Deepak Chopra, M.D. and David Simon, M.D. Through its high-traffic website, the Chopra Center reaches millions of people around the world with its monthly online newsletter, guided meditation podcasts, and articles about the latest developments in mind-body medicine, holistic health care, and the practical tools of Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old healing tradition that originated in India.

"Freedom is a core human value, and is essential to the Chopra Center's mission to promote transformation, physical and emotional well-being, and healing of the planet," said Chopra Center co-founder David Simon, M.D.

"The Chopra Center supports all people seeking freedom of speech and the end of oppression in Iran and everywhere else in the world. It's only a matter of time until the collective conscious of the Iranian people opens the hearts and minds of the current Iranian leadership," David Simon said.
