Consumers Advised to Schedule Services During Summer Months

Boiler services are essential according to Boilerguide

London, UK (PRWEB) June 25, 2009 -- Consumers should begin thinking about having their boilers serviced during the summer to ensure that they are prepared for the winter, according to Boilerguide, the UK's leading online resource for homeowners and heating engineers regarding all boiler-related issues.

Boilerguide has indicated that homeowners should have their boilers serviced during the summer wherever possible in order to ensure that their boiler and heating systems are in good condition when the winter comes around and their heating is needed much more frequently.

Many owners of condensing boilers find that problems arise when they come to use their boiler following a period of inactivity, such as the summer. Boilers can experience seizures or blockages due to lack of use, and because of this it is recommended that a service is undertaken before the end of the summer.

In the current "throw away" culture many individuals see it as being cheaper to replace items when they experience problems rather than repairing them, but with gas boilers this is certainly not the case.

Any problems that a current gas boiler may have are cheaper to repair. Regular use of a gas boiler over the winter months results in normal wear and tear, and coupled with any inactivity over the summer, this can be detrimental to the boiler.

Having a gas boiler service to ensure that the boiler is in peak condition in preparation for the intense winter period, where heating is a necessity, can significantly increase the life of the boiler. Were the need for a service ignored, further use may result in added damage the boiler, leaving the expensive outcome of needing a replacement.

Furthermore, a service is of great importance for health and safety reasons, as gas boilers can present the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

A normal service can cost between £50 and £80, and consumers must ensure that they employ a qualified engineer registered with Gas Safe to conduct the service. It is also advised that a carbon monoxide detector is installed in close proximity to the boiler if one is not present already.
