The soft cover book is 232 pages (ISBN # 978-1-4363-9064-7) and is available for $19.99. The hard cover book is 232 pages (ISBN # 978-1-4363-9064-4) and is available for $29.99. "You Never Know" revolves around three main characters. Ida Haberman, born in Detroit, lives through an angst-filled adolescence, a problematic marriage and an addiction to pain pills. Charlie Nollman, an only son and youngest child, grows up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, surrounded by a widowed and controlling mother, and three sisters. He woos and wins Ida after their meeting in Miami Beach. Abe Hirsch, born in Detroit, becomes a butcher. Despite being bound to a wheelchair, he has a tumultuous love affair with Ida later in life. The stories of these three people include romance, betrayal, sex, adultery, and illness, as well as courage, generosity, hope, humor and warmth. Readers will find themselves laughing at their crazy antics, while simultaneously crying at the heart-wrenching circumstances which befall them.

Dale Boesky, past Editor-in-Chief of the Psychoanalytic Quarterly and current Training and Supervising Analyst at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, states, "I was moved deeply by the insights into human behavior that were revealed in 'You Never Know'. Abe, with only 3 of his 4 limbs, and Ida, with her addiction, are ironically suited for each other…I think it is this universality of the characters in 'You Never Know' that mordantly binds them to all of us. I congratulate Mr. Newman on this achievement."

The author of "You Never Know", Robert Newman, was born and raised in Detroit. After serving in the U.S. Merchant Marine Cadet Corps, he graduated from the University of Michigan and moved to New York City. While not biographical, Newman incorporates personal experiences into his writing. "My mother lived her last, rather lonely years in a senior residence," states Newman. "The genesis of 'You Never Know' was a desire to recreate her life and give her a happy ending… even finding love. I worked backwards from there."

Mr. Newman worked as a writer and editor most of his adult life, and eventually became head of medical publications for a pharmaceutical advertising company. He founded CoMedica, a medical communications company, where he remained at the helm until 1997. Mr. Newman has published numerous magazine articles, in addition to a volume of poems. "You Never Know" is Newman's first full-length literary work.

Rich in detail and told in an intriguing, fast-paced narrative which combines humor within the somber, "You Never Know" is a riveting account of destinies unfolding. The twists and turns that beset the characters, entwine them indelibly, but where they will end up, You Never Know!
