Fayetteville/Cumberland County, America's First Military Sanctuary community, is gearing up for Operation Celebrate Freedom VII, an All-American Fourth of July event, taking place at the Main Post Parade Field at Fort Bragg. The event celebrates our country's freedom and independence while paying tribute to the military heroes that fight everyday to protect it. This year's event will take place on Saturday, July 4, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and is a particularly meaningful one, as it will honor children of fallen heroes for their courage and bravery. Fayetteville and FMWR have teamed up with Hasbro to give away GI Joe toys to children who have lost a parent or guardian in combat. The Army's Army, a Fayetteville volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the community's military families, will be handing out the GI Joe action figures at their tent.

"Operation Celebrate Freedom VII is a huge annual event that brings the community together to celebrate a very special day," says Mayor Anthony Chavonne. "We are overjoyed with the generous donation of toys from Hasbro and their presence at truly one of my favorite events of year. The gifts are a small gesture of support and appreciation to the children of fallen heroes from our community, FMWR and Hasbro."

The event is free to the public and expects to attract 50,000+ people, bringing the community, residents and local businesses together for a day packed with fun. Attendees will enjoy musical entertainment, food and activities. Highlights include a performance by country singers Jason Michael Carroll and Julianne Hough, a freefall demonstration by the Golden Knights, and an impressive display of fireworks. Other attractions include a flag ceremony and a speech by Lieutenant General Austin.

"I'm very excited to be teaming up with Hasbro and FMWR to make this day a special one for our children of fallen heroes," says John Meroski, CEO of the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Everyday the community challenges itself to come up with new and unique ways to demonstrate our support for soldiers and their families in America's First Military Sanctuary community. This is another way we are doing so - a touching and meaningful one that involves reaching out and recognizing the brave children."
