RFID for Dummies author Patrick J. Sweeney II will lead an "RFID for Medical Device Manufacturers" lecture at the 5th Annual Orthopaedic Manufacturing & Technology Exposition and Conference (OMTEC). Many medical device and orthopaedic implant manufacturers are employing RFID to cut costs and improve customer service. Mr. Sweeney discusses how early adopters are gaining advantage in a highly competitive industry.

The 5th Annual Orthopaedic Manufacturing & Technology Exposition and Conference (OMTEC) at the Stephens Convention Center outside of Chicago will feature Patrick J. Sweeney II, author of RFID for Dummies and founder of ODIN technologies. ODIN is one of the medical device industry's leading providers of automatic identification technology and radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions. Mr. Sweeney will speak Thursday at 9:00 am about leveraging RFID in the medical device supply chain to drive a return on investment (ROI) in less than 12 months.

"The demand from the medical device industry for RFID solutions has been impressive in tough economic times. Clearly the industry is thirsting for information on how to deploy it correctly and drive benefits," commented Mr. Sweeney.

He added, "Pardon the pun but this industry is all about cutting edge technology and many are still using blunt instruments for logistics. No one in the industry would operate on a patient with 35 year old technology, but that is what they use in their supply chains. Many of the leading competitors now realize the need 21st century technology to maximize supply chain visibility and generate real time data to drive key decisions. RFID is helping drive that visibility and cut costs at the same time - a good recipe for recessionary times."

Mr. Sweeney's session will start with the basics of RFID. He'll explain the differences in RFID technologies and how an RFID network should be properly architected. The second segment will focus on solutions specific to medical device industry requirements. The third segment will feature an interactive Q&A session with audience participation.

ODIN technologies is a Gold Sponsor of OMTEC 2009 and will be present in a 10x20 booth on the exhibit floor all week at OMTEC.
