Bezos Scholars Program Sponsors Global Nomads Group Event @ Aspen Ideas Festival, Moderated by Anna Deavere Smith
What inspires a great idea? How does one young person spark life-enhancing change in a village, a country, the world? On July 3, at Hotel Jerome in Aspen, the Bezos Scholars Program will sponsor "Inspired to Action," to introduce five remarkable individuals who through innovation, purpose and great courage have become leaders of their generation.
Aspen, CO (PRWEB) June 29, 2009 -- What inspires a great idea? Necessity? Extraordinary circumstances? Passion? What makes one person find hope and courage in circumstances that cause so many others to despair? How does one young person spark life-enhancing change in a village, a country, the world?
At age 11, Ana Dodson founded Peruvian Hearts.
On July 3, at 8 p.m. at Hotel Jerome in Aspen, CO, the Bezos Scholars Program @ the Aspen Institute will sponsor "Inspired to Action," a Global Nomads Group event that will introduce five remarkable individuals who through innovation, purpose and great courage have become leaders of their generation. Although their journeys and challenges are markedly different, they share many traits: determination, resilience, spirit and a great urgency for change.
Meet Ana Dodson, who at 11 founded Peruvian Hearts to provide a better life for child orphans in her native country. Meet William Kamkwanba, who at 14 harnessed the wind to power his village in Malawi. Meet Logan Smalley and Darius Weems, who are spreading the word--from a wheelchair that defines cool -- about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the number one genetic killer of children in the U.S. Meet Palwasha Zarifi, who at 17 has courageously begun a women's movement in Afghanistan.
The panelists have been brought together through the work of the Global Nomads Group, which uses interactive technologies to link young people around the world to share, face-to-face, the concerns, hopes, differences and similarities of their lives.
"Inspired to Action" is sponsored by the Bezos Scholars Program @ the Aspen Institute. "This event is a natural sponsorship for us as we strive to cultivate learning as a lifelong process, while nurturing the leaders of tomorrow," explains Jackie Bezos, who together with her husband, Mike, founded the Bezos Family Foundation. "We are honored to share with Aspen the important work of the Global Nomads Group and introduce these five extraordinary young leaders."
"Inspired to Action" is part of the 2009 Aspen Ideas Festival offerings that focus on "Ideas that Work." Anna Deavere Smith, acclaimed actor, playwright, teacher and author, will moderate the evening.
