Lawyers Accepting Fosamax Osteonecrosis Lawsuit Cases

Gregory & Swapp PLLC is representing clients who have been injured by the popular prescription drug Fosamax. Fosamax is used to treat bone thinning disorders, such as osteoporosis and osteitis deformans. According to internal documents issued by the manufacturer, Merck & Company, the use of Fosamax has been associated with the development of Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (ONJ) or what is commonly called 'Dead Jaw'. Common symptoms of ONJ include pain or swelling of the gums, loosening teeth, pain or numbness in the jaw, or exposed bone in the mouth. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Merck issued a warning to health care professionals on September 24, 2004 about Fosamax and ONJ.

Sandy, Utah (PRWEB) July 18, 2009 -- Gregory & Swapp PLLC now represents clients who have been injured by the prescription drug Fosamax, announces Managing Partner J. Craig Swapp. The law firm has introduced a Fosamax lawsuit website to help inform individuals of the dangers of Fosamax and what legal options are available to those injured by its side effects.

Fosamax® (Alendronate Sodium) is a popular prescription drug used to prevent and treat osteoporosis, primarily with post-menopausal women (although men with osteoporosis can also be prescribed Fosamax). Another version, Fosamax Plus D, contains vitamin D. Fosamax was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1995.

As a bisphosphonate class drug, Fosamax reduces the activity of cells that cause bone loss. The use of Fosamax use decreases the rate of bone loss or, when used with steroids, can increase the amount of bone. Fosamax is manufactured by Merck & Company and is still on the market. It is being taken by nearly 10 million patients and has annual sales of $3.2 billion.

An internal Merck white paper (released by the FDA) associates the use of Fosamax with the development of Osteonecrosis of the Jaw or 'Dead Jaw' - a serious and possibly irreversible deterioration of the jaw. The Merck white paper says: Osteonecrosis of the jaw, generally associated with tooth extraction and/or local infection, often with delayed healing, has been reported in patients taking bisphosphonates. (Source: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2005/020560s038_021575s007lbl.pdf)

Consequently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Merck issued a warning to health care professionals on September 24, 2004 about the use of Fosamax and its link to Osteonecrosis of the Jaw. Common symptoms of this disorder are: pain in the jaw (pain similar to arthritis), a numb sensation in the mouth or jaw, infection of the gums, loosening teeth, and exposed bone in the mouth. It also can cause a broken femur to fail to heal.

The Law Firm of Gregory & Swapp PLLC handles serious personal injury cases, including dangerous prescription drugs, wrongful death, vehicle accidents, etc. For more information please visit Gregory & Swapp's Fosamax website or call 1-800-404-9000.
