The "Great Grocery Getaway" runs from June 29, 2009 through September 6, 2009 and follows on the heels of the recently concluded "Earth Day Commuter Challenge" where commuters in Connecticut and New York's Lower Hudson Valley received valuable discounts and prizes from Peapod for reducing over 220,000 car trips resulting in 6.2 million fewer miles of driven and the prevention of 2,700 tons of emissions (see

"The results of the Earth Day Challenge were fabulous and would not have been achieved without the valuable discounts and prizes offered by Peapod," said Rick Steele, CEO of NuRide, Inc. "and we are thrilled that Peapod has chosen to expand their partnership and launch the Great Grocery Getaway, which will reward Long Island commuters for getting away from their cars and going green this summer".

"Peapod has been helping people leave their cars at home for years so working with NuRide on these exciting events is just one more way we can help reduce traffic and emissions while supporting the communities that we serve," said Peg Merzbacher, Marketing Director at Peapod by Stop & Shop, "and we hope that thousands of Long Islanders will join in this summer and get away from their cars while enjoying a greener commute".

To participate in the Great Grocery Getaway, individuals who live or work on Long Island sign up on the NuRide web site and record their carpool, vanpool, bike, walk, telecommute and public transportation trips. Participants then earn points for every trip recorded on the NuRide web site, which can be redeemed for a variety of rewards including discounts on Peapod groceries. In addition, for every logged trip each participant receives an entry to win $100 worth of free groceries delivered to their door by Peapod by Stop & Shop. For more information please visit
