Backpage.com, a leading online classifieds website, announces launch of affiliate program to the general public. Backpage.com's affiliate program is the first of its kind that compensates website owners, bloggers and Internet marketing professionals for driving traffic to a free classified site.

"In today's tough economic times, Internet users are posting information regarding jobs, items for sale, services offered and everything else under the sun," said Carl Ferrer, founder of Backpage.com. "This program benefits both Backpage.com and website owners as it drives traffic to the site and rewards website owners for promoting our online classified website."

The affiliate program works when a website owner posts a small text link or banner advertisement on their personal website that directs users to Backpage.com. That site visitor is tagged with a specific affiliate id. When they click through to Backpage.com and post an advertisement within 30 days, the affiliate will receive a 10 percent commission on any online advertising upgrades. Users spend anywhere from one dollar to $1,000 a month in upgrades such as auto reposting, sponsorship ads and multi-city advertisements.

All user posts are tracked with the original affiliate identification number. That user may post an initial classified ad within a month but not post another ad until a year after originally visiting Backpage.com. The user is still identified with a specific affiliate id which allows the original referring affiliate to receive residual compensation.

The affiliate program has been in beta mode for several months. To-date the select beta affiliates have earned over $100,000 in commissions. With Backpage.com experiencing an increase of billions of page views this year, the commission is significant and limitless.

Signing up for the program is simple. A website owner enrolls as an affiliate to receive a specific identification number and instructions on how to implement the tracking system. To sign up for the program visit http://www.backpage.com/affiliates. There is no paperwork, no expense and no commitment.

Backpage.com is a popular online classifieds website. Founded in March 2004, Backpage is owned and operated by the Village Voice Media, a publisher of alternative newsweeklies in many major U.S. cities. Backpage.com is in over 250 cities in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The website has over two million postings and half a billion page views per month and ranks second among free online classified websites according to Alexa and Comscore Media Metrix.
