Current and former independent baseball players, managers, owners, league officials, front office executives, announcers, umpires, and others involved with independent professional baseball leagues now have a website which helps those in baseball called "independents." IndependentBaseballAlumni.com announced today that it launched its website and blog.
Matt Mc Dermott, a six-year veteran of independent baseball and founder of the website, said, "Professional baseball veterans who have only independent-level experience, on the field or off the field, have no formal alumni association of their own. In addition, these professional athletes and others involved in independent baseball, have had no centralized location to look up historical information; nor have they had relevant how-to information designed to help them transition once they retire from pro baseball."
He continued, "I have been fortunate enough to have been involved with independent baseball for many years in uniform, selling tickets in the community, participating in owners meetings, and working in the league office. I discovered that fellow independent baseball veterans at all levels wanted one website which offers them links to independent baseball history, helpful how-to information related to pro baseball, and helpful how-to information which improves their lives."
The blog features links to information for over 200 previous independent professional baseball teams and leagues, a mailing list for independent baseball veterans to join for free, and links to how-to information ranging from career training to first-time car buying.
"In the upcoming weeks," Mc Dermott said, "I plan to add more content which is relevant to anyone who was ever involved with independent baseball. This will include new avenues for independent baseball memorabilia, links to online videos, photo-sharing links, and more how-to information relevant to current teams and their front offices. Additional benefits will be offered in upcoming weeks."
"Industry veterans who join the list are welcome to offer suggestions for new content. I aim to benefit the alumni members, and current players and team personnel are invited to join as well."
