Concierge Medicine Takes Front Seat with Health Care Reform Uncertainty

The need for Concierge Medicine is growing as individuals seek a higher level of customer service from their physicians. As President Obama seeks to reform health care, some doctors and their patients are taking steps to improve both customer service and access. After multiple requests by clients, Executive Medicine of Texas added Concierge Medicine to their list of services.

Southlake, TX (PRWEB) July 8, 2009 -- Health care reform is at the top of the priority list for President Obama. As the country scrambles to make sense of upcoming reform, more patients than ever are looking to individualized concierge service. Instead of waiting days to be seen by their physician, only to wait in a crowded waiting area, patients are seeking exclusive low volume physician practices.

Dr. Walter Gaman of Executive Medicine of Texas explains, "We run a very exclusive executive physical practice in Southlake. After multiple requests, we opened our services to a limited number of concierge patients. These patients have access to us 24/7 and we really get to know them and understand all their health needs."

The American health care system is currently constructed of a three tier system. The first tier is county health, the second is insurance based practices, and the top tier is often referred to as executive care or concierge medicine. It was once believed that the top tier was only for the ultra rich, but the increase in health care insurance and deductibles is proving the top tier to be more cost effective than originally believed.

Concierge services can range in price from $2,000 per year to $10,000 per year. What a patient gets for the cost of this service is just as varied as the price. Physicians offering more services for the price are those that have the amenities within their practice. A small practice that stands alone will not be able to offer near the services as one that has satellite offices or is part of a larger group.

As an award winning physician who specializes in preventative health, Dr. Mark Anderson knows how important access is for patients. "Because we have another office in Irving, we can offer our concierge patients of Executive Medicine of Texas more services for their money. Patients that have gone through our executive physical program can add a concierge package for under $3,000. This allows them a year of office visits, necessary standard lab work, x-rays and other imaging services such as MRI and CT, as well as 24/7 access to their physician."

Concierge medicine is a win-win for many doctors and patients. The patients get the care they need and the doctors don't have to spend time and resources arguing with insurance companies. Some patients are adding the expense of concierge medicine to their insurance regime, while others are coupling it with catastrophic insurance only.
