Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 14, 2009
Wimba® Inc., the education technology company that helps people teach people, unveiled the Wimba Hall of Fame for Excellence in Collaboration, designed to honor and celebrate the most distinguished educators among Wimba's worldwide community.
While many members of the Wimba community have already been marked by industry accolades such as the USDLA 2008 Excellence in Distance Learning Award, 2008 National Arts Educator of the Year, and European Award for Languages 2008, the Wimba Hall of Fame for Excellence in Collaboration will be Wimba's unique platform with which to acknowledge excellence in collaboration.
The Wimba Collaboration Suite was awarded the 2009 CODiE award for "Best Education Solution" by SIIA, for its ability to replicate and, in fact, improve the lively and dynamic interaction of traditional instruction and face-to-face communication. However, it is the exceptional instructors, who use Wimba in an exemplary and creative way on a daily basis, who this Hall of Fame will acknowledge.
"Fortunate students, at some point in their academic career, have experienced the power of connecting with a teacher, a classmate, an idea, a piece of literature or a work of art," said Barbara Ross, Chief Operating Officer of Wimba. "Wimba solutions facilitate this sort of collaboration, but it is the practitioners who work so hard everyday to reach their students, in and out of the classroom, that really excel in collaboration and whom we look forward to honoring through our Hall of Fame."
The power of connecting around an intellectual endeavor, which is a simple definition of collaboration, can take on many forms with Wimba. Perhaps it is a unique learning scenario that expands a student's horizon, or one that touches formerly unreachable students. Perhaps it is a cost-saving or enterprise-wide implementation that meets the standards of a 21st century learning environment. It could even be the use of Wimba to support an outstanding green or sustainability initiative. Regardless of the form it takes, winners of this award will be distinguished by their commitment to excellence in collaboration using Wimba technology.
"I've worked with the Wimba community for almost a decade and am excited that we can now officially honor our most distinguished and deserving educators," stated Matt Wasowski, Senior Director of Customer Programs at Wimba. "With over 1000 universities, community colleges, school districts, further education institutions and publishers, from 37 countries and 6 continents utilizing Wimba, the challenge will of course be in narrowing down the list of finalists and then winners. I'm constantly impressed by the remarkable creativity and passion that Wimba users bring to their learning communities."
While there are no specific categories, nominees will have demonstrated excellence at an institution, college or university, district or school in using Wimba to accomplish any number of the following:
- Improving student outcomes,
- Enterprise-wide implementation across an entire institution, district, school or virtual program,
- Saving significant money for an institution or program,
- Encouraging sustainability/green initiatives,
- Increasing retention rates,
- Attracting and retaining new students,
- Assessing the quality and impact of Wimba within a course,
- Introducing global collaboration, and/or
- Reaching otherwise unreachable students.
Nominations can be self- or peer- submitted online from July 14, 2009 until January 15, 2010. Finalists will be announced in February 2010. The inaugural Class of 2010 will be inducted during a live awards ceremony at Wimba Connect 2010 in late March.
