Nation's Slow Economy Causes Medford Builder to Look at Home Based Travel Business Opportunity to Replace Lost Income

Robert Hurd, UPS Driver and Builder, was feeling the effects of the nation's slowing economy. He, and a lot of other people depending on the building industry, lost approximately 25 to 30 percent of their income due to the economic downturn. Robert has now looked to the internet to replace his losses by starting Home Based Travel Businesses.

Economic slowdown has all but stopped the building industry in the southern Oregon city of Medford, a small town on the I-5 corridor. Robert Hurd, a UPS driver and builder, has had to turn to a very different type of business. He went from framing houses and building decks to working online, e-mailing, keyword searching, advertising, and direct marketing. Hurd went from packing lumber to feeding paper into his printer and sometimes the physical task of changing ink cartridges. "I never thought I would be spending all my spare time behind a desk putting adds on Google Adwords and doing search engine optimizing," Hurd says. Robert has now looked to the internet to replace his losses by starting Home Based Travel Businesses.

"I have 4 different online businesses working now and I believe that they are going to be successful, they have to be, I really have no option but to succeed." Saying this because the construction business that he had quit bringing in any kind of income starting back in October 2008. He has been struggling, like a lot of other contractors have been, since the early part of 2007 when the economy began to stall. "I will do whatever it takes to support my family and keep my home. This type of work is a lot different then building. Easier on my body and kind of fun. I am a little out of my comfort zone but I am learning something new every minute of the day."
