To receive federal funding, schools are now required to build data systems that track student achievement and teacher effectiveness. Dr. Robert Marzano's Suite: Connecting Teacher Growth to Student Achievement is a set of tools that allows district administrators to implement an instructional performance management system that delivers clear, data-rich feedback and creates job-embedded opportunities for growth.

Developed by Marzano Research Laboratory in partnership with Learning Sciences International, the Suite builds on Marzano's book "The Art and Science of Teaching." Each component of the Suite is updated regularly by Marzano to include the most current research findings.

While designed for use as a system, each component can be used separately. The Observation and Feedback Protocol, powered by iObservation technology, is the Suite's electronic platform for creating teacher effectiveness profiles. The Leaders of Learning Program trains school administrators to use the protocol. The Library of Online Resources is a continuously updated source teachers can access to improve in their assessed growth areas.

The Suite also includes an online Master of Science in education with a major in the art and science of teaching, a 30-credit graduate degree, and the Online Program to Support Effective Teaching, a series of eight online courses. Educators who complete the master's degree or the online program are eligible to pursue nationally recognized certifications.

A final component is the option to book a virtual coach for additional training on how to best use the Suite to achieve growth and performance goals.

"Effective teachers enhance student achievement," says Marzano. "While the reasoned use of specific instructional strategies is certainly a necessary ingredient of expertise, the ultimate criterion for expert performance in the classroom is student achievement. Anything else misses the point."
