"Supporting our nation and upholding a sense of patriotism within our organization has always been important to our third-generation owned company," said Sam Polakoff, president of TBB, "It is an honor to be recognized by the American Legion as a company who employs veterans. It is also a tribute to the hardworking veterans on TBB's staff who deserve special recognition for the sacrifices they have made for their country."

The Employer of Veterans award was created by The National Economic Commission in 1969 to recognize businesses for hiring and retaining significant numbers of veterans. The medium class category honors companies with between 51 to 200 employees in business for at least five years. Four and a half percent of TBB new hires in 2008 were veterans and TBB veterans represent nearly all of the U.S. Armed Forces.

TBB, with headquarters in New Freedom, Pa., has been a long-time supporter of America's troops and veterans. In 1999, TBB formed the company's CAT TEAM, which stands for Corporate Action Team Together Encouraging and Motivating. The team was designed to foster teamwork within the company and to encourage support for the community. Fundraisers that the TBB CAT TEAM has organized include: The American Cancer Society, Glaucoma Research Foundation, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Make a Wish Foundation and The Fisher House which supports U.S. troops and their families in times of need. The TBB CAT TEAM also has worked to collect care packages to send to troops overseas.
