Poron® cushioning material has been used to manufacture the insole for the world's largest trainer (Guiness World RecordsTM accredited).
The colossal trainer was recently unveiled in support of Cancer Research UK's Race for Life 2009 and has been touring Tesco branches across the UK as part of the retailer's biggest ever fundraising initiative. The UK size 454 trainer, weighing 150 kg took three months and 840 man hours to build and features the optimum insole material for shock absorption Poron, supplied by Algeos UK.
The trainer was designed and produced by Ingenious and built by Specialist Models and was produced following the traditional British footwear manufacturing process. The shoe features 19 sq m of leatherette and 18m long shoe laces.
The World's Largest Trainer has been visiting Tesco stores around the UK, collecting signatures and donations from customers, staff, media and celebrities in support of Race for Life.
Ruth Girardet, Tesco Corporate Responsibility Director comments: "This is our biggest national fundraising initiative to date; an exciting and fun way to not only raise valuable extra funds for Cancer Research UK but also motivate and encourage participation from our customers and staff."
This year, over 230 Race for Life events have been scheduled and will run until to July at venues throughout the UK.
