Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 19, 2009 -- Threadless and Chris Cardinal launched Threadcakes, the online cake competition that challenges bakers (and even non-bakers!) to bake cakes featuring their favorite Threadless t-shirt designs. Users have two weeks left to enter the competition, show off their baking creativity and score awesome prizes. Mary Alice from Ace of Cakes and other prominent baking bloggers are on board to judge the winning Threadcakes designs.
Threadcakes was first launched in 2007 by web entrepreneur and long-time Threadless community participant Chris Cardinal, username disillusioned on the Threadless forums. Chris was inspired by the fun idea of turning art into edible art, because the idea of art you can eat sounds awesome. The first Threadcakes contest was enthusiastically received by Threadless community designers and fans alike, and generated over 100 entries, so Threadcakes was brought back in 2009. Synapse Studios, Chris's web development firm, has generously provided development resources, servers and bandwidth for the Threadcakes website.
Prize sponsors have joined forces with Threadless to recognize the Threadcakes winners. The winning submissions will win goodies from King Arthur Flour, Guittard Chocolate Company, Charm City Cakes, Fancy Flours and gift certificates from Threadless. Prizes will be awarded to both 2-D cakes and 3-D cakes. The 3-D grand prize winner will win an amazing, one-of-a-kind custom Threadless Art Panel, painted in the likeness of the winning cake.
The judging panel for Threadcakes features leading baking and cake-related bloggers Nicole Weston from Baking Bites, Jen Yates from Cake Wrecks, Louise from Cake Journal, Jennifer from Bake or Break and Mary Alice from Charm City Cakes/Ace of Cakes.
"Threadcakes is an outstanding example of the passion and creativity that lives within the Threadless community, as well as proof that a community and a company can work together to create amazing ideas," said Charlie Festa, community manager at Threadless.
The contest is simple: Create a Threadcakes account, pick a design and follow the rules on Threadcakes.com. Remember there are only two weeks left to enter; the contest ends Monday, August 3rd. Users may submit as many entries as they want in either category and are encouraged to go wild with creativity! To view complete contest rules visit the Threadcakes rules page.
