Pelletron Publishing has recently released "Gather Now the Mighty", a novel by first time author, Trevor Gerra. The book, which took Gerra over four years to research and write, attempts to put a fresh spin on events surrounding the ancient origins of Israel as a sovereign nation. Written from a biblical perspective, the author purports to have made all efforts to keep the integrity of Old Testament Scripture in place while captivating the reader with a tale of fast-paced action and verbose heroism.
"I wanted the reader to feel the intensity of that era by portraying the rise of the nation of Israel in grandiose fashion and with characters straight out of a modern day graphic-novel," says Gerra. "I tried to use supernatural themes and schematics to describe the Jewish nation's rise to power in a storyline that has otherwise been downplayed in the past. Israel's origins have too often been described as humble and meager--a mainly agrarian society with little to offer in terms of cultural ascendancy--despite a documented history that is anything but ordinary."
Gather Now the Mighty alternatively relies upon a superfluously animated narrative technique to thrust the Israelites into the limelight of the ancient world, both politically and militaristically. Gerra's reasoning, "This was, after all, a nation that was soon to become the earth's major trading hub under the rule of King Solomon. Israel was a legitimate world authority and a superpower during this dark period of world history, circa 1000 B.C."
The novel likewise includes a long list of superhero-like characters, including its central character, Adino; this is the same man mentioned in the Bible as the most proficient and battle proven warrior amongst King David's "Mighty Men", an individual who purportedly defeated 800 of his enemies on the battlefield at one time.
Being a Navy corpsman, deployed with the marines during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, the author recounts how his own experience with modern day war translated into the tale, "Even though I was writing about ancient battles, I attempted to capture the raw nature of combat and the intensity of warfare in a manner that would allow contemporary readers the ability to understand the bravery and fortitude required of any warrior, modern or ancient. I then did my best to morph the premise of heroism and bravery into a tale that offers spiritual inspiration. Using the mighty men of King David as the chief characters for my novel really gave me a lot to work with."
Besides the main plot, there are various other historical aspects of Ancient Israel and narratives included in the book, stretching back to the time of Noah. Major biblical events and personages are included in the tale very imaginatively, including the famous records of Joshua, Samson, David, and others, all of which are weaved into the storyline in seamless manner and with gracious artistic license on the part of the author. Trevor Gerra elucidates upon the title of his novel, "The name of the book, 'Gather Now the Mighty' is representative of the protagonist's plight as well as a description of my own attempts to gather the accounts, in novel form, of a diverse number of mighty men mentioned in religious script."
Author, Trevor Gerra, currently resides in Southern California. He is a graduate student, pursuing a Master's Degree in Education, and is actively involved in missionary work in Belize, Central America. His book, "Gather Now the Mighty" is available online at the publisher's website http://www.Pelletronpublishing.com as well as on Amazon.com. The novel is the perfect read for religious and historical enthusiasts alike, as well as those simply looking to fill their craving for inspirational action and adventure.
