GCA was founded by Todd Goldstein and Dar Caldwell out of their experience and challenges in trying to find resources and capital to help start their own businesses. GCA targets young entrepreneurs who are often overlooked by local investors and banks and helps them turn their ideas into viable businesses through a combination of seed funding, business development, mentoring and a youth focused culture. This model accelerates validation and business launch processes and improves the start-up success rate while mitigating risk to investors.

"There is so much talent and innovation coming from young entrepreneurs graduating from Case Western Reserve University, John Carroll University, The University of Akron and Kent State University," explains Todd Goldstein, managing partner, GCA. "Our goal is to keep the people here and develop their ideas, which will also benefit the Northeast Ohio economy," Goldstein adds.

On Thursday, July 23, GCA will host its first portfolio showcase open to private investors and entrepreneurs at The College Club of Cleveland from 6 pm to 8 pm. Four companies will present their latest start-up success stories. These companies include: a retail business intelligence software provider; a social media networking site; an online recruitment and hiring solution provider; and a solar energy product provider. The event is by invitation only. To request an invitation, call Todd Goldstein at 216-255-3069.

GCA has grown its portfolio companies from one to six, and its staff from two to 10. It has recruited an advisory board comprised of 11 members from various industries. GCA's goal by the end of the year is to add another five portfolio companies.

Flexhire, an online recruiting and hiring tool for part-time and non-career oriented jobs, launched its site's beta version http://www.flexhire.com in June and within three weeks has already generated advertising revenue and registered 23,000 job seekers. "GCA has provided us with tremendous support from seed funding, business planning and office space to helping us make strategic connections in the community," explains Joe Regallis, president and chief executive officer, Flexhire. "We are close to getting our next round of funding thanks to GCA's help in developing grant proposals," adds Regallis.

GCA has proven that their model works and there is significant opportunity coming from young entrepreneurs and investors in Northeast Ohio.

"Young entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of any innovative and forward moving city," states Dar Caldwell, managing partner, GCA. "To ensure sustained growth in our region we must successfully connect our emerging leaders with the human, corporate, civic and capital resources in the area," adds Caldwell.

Goldstein, Caldwell & Associates (GCA) is a seed capital investment and business development company that helps young entrepreneurs turn their ideas into viable businesses. Through seed funding, business development expertise, mentoring and a youth-focused culture, GCA helps portfolio companies accelerate the start-up process. Once a start-up venture is stable, has a proven business model and is generating revenue, GCA looks for second stage investors to fuel the next phase of growth. This approach improves the success rate for seed stage ventures and mitigates risks for early investors. Northeast Ohio benefits by attracting and retaining young entrepreneurs who contribute to the area's economic growth.
