University of Nebraska Medical Center's Eagle Run facility now offers both primary and urgent care services. A co-location with AfterOurs Urgent Care creates affordable urgent care services and expands access to non-emergency healthcare.

On July 1st, AfterOurs Urgent Care opened their doors at the University of Nebraska Medical Center's (UNMC) Eagle Run location. The UNMC Physician's clinic at, 13708 W. Maple Road, will continue to offer primary care services, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, while AfterOurs Urgent Care will provide adult and pediatric urgent care services at night, as well as during weekends, and holidays. AfterOurs' board certified physicians will treat non-life and limb threatening injuries and illnesses, and perform on-site lab draws and x-rays at the facility.

By sharing clinics with physician practices that are typically closed during evening, weekend, and holiday hours, AfterOurs is able to reduce their capital start up costs, allowing them to keep patient care costs down, staff with board certified physicians, and offer services later than most urgent care providers. Also unique to the AfterOurs model is AfterOurs' physician referral policies. AfterOurs' Colorado locations make over 1,000 referrals to community physicians each month. Patients without primary care providers (PCP) are educated about the importance of the primary care provider and patient relationship and referred to community physicians. Patients with PCP's are referred back to their physician for follow-up care and further treatment. Because of AfterOurs' distinct business model, AfterOurs' clinics are seen as complimentary to physician practices, rather than as competitive. The model has even resulted in AfterOurs' patients receiving priority appointments with specialists and PCP's alike.

"Urgent care was never meant to replace primary care. Healthcare works best when a patient is treated in the most appropriate place of service. AfterOurs is committed to making sure that each patient is treated in the right place, by the right type of physician, even if it's not at an AfterOurs clinic", said Chris Rehm, Executive Director of AfterOurs Urgent Care. "Urgent care serves an important role in the community. It's an efficient and affordable alternative to the emergency room, when a regular doctor visit simply isn't possible."

"AfterOurs strives to support patients in conserving time and financial resources, while respecting and perpetuating the primary care relationship," said Dennis Bierle, chief operating officer for UNMC Physicians. "To achieve this, AfterOurs makes sure that it keeps patients, the primary care physician, and other caregivers informed as to all aspects of the care that is provided."
