The AEGIS™ Bearing Protection Ring™ from Electro Static Technology is one of the most innovative products to be invented for ensuring sustainable operation of inverter driven motors. Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), while providing up to 50% energy savings, also induce shaft voltages that must be diverted away from the motor's bearings to ground - or the motor may fail.

Only the patented AEGIS™ shaft grounding ring (SGR) technology protects VFD controlled motors by providing a circumferential ring of highly conductive filaments placed around the motor shaft. Since 2004, the market has truly embraced AEGIS™ Bearing Protection Ring as the best solution to prevent bearing fluting and the resulting premature motor failure.

"We are extremely proud of the success of the patented AEGIS Bearing Protection ring" said Adam Willwerth, sales and marketing manager for Electro Static Technology, "we believe AEGIS is the only permissible shaft grounding ring in the market because of our patented technology and provides the most effective protection possible for motor bearings of its type."

Without an effective means of shaft grounding, the currents will discharge through the bearings, causing pitting and bearing fluting damage. This leads to noise, vibration, and bearing failure, severely reducing the reliability of the entire system and wiping out any savings from using the VFD. Adding an AEGIS SGR to a VFD-driven motor produces a true inverter-duty motor.

Electro Static Technology estimates that the total cost of VFD controlled motor failure can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars and in some cases much more, while the repair and replacement costs may be two or three times the cost of the motor and drive. "It is just not worth taking the chance on a motor failure that can be easily prevented" stated Adam, "this is why AEGIS™ is the solution that customers rely on to protect their motors."
