Manufacturers of Components for Recreational Vehicles and Manufactured Homes to Use Product Configurator with Microsoft Dynamics NAV

based software solutions, announced today that Lippert Components, Inc. and Kinro, Inc. (Kinro), both manufacturers of components for the recreational vehicle (RV) and manufactured home markets, have selected TDCI's BuyDesign Configurator for use as the embedded product configurator in their Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Lippert manufactures and markets components primarily for RVs and manufactured homes, including steel chassis, chassis components, RV slide-out mechanisms and solutions, toy hauler ramp doors, manual, electric, and hydraulic stabilizer and lifting systems, entry and baggage doors, furniture and mattresses, entry steps and other towable accessories. Lippert also manufactures specialty trailers for hauling boats, personal watercraft, snowmobiles, and equipment, as well as axles for specialty trailers. Kinro produces aluminum and vinyl windows and doors for RVs and manufactured homes. Both companies are subsidiaries of Drew Industries Incorporated (NYSE: DW).

BuyDesign Configurator is a highly flexible product configurator that makes it easy to capture product knowledge in the form of product rules and constraints. It then guides users through product specification, calculates pricing, and optionally generates a wide range of configuration-specific outputs such as manufacturing information, drawings, CAD models, documents and more.

Lippert has used MS Dynamics NAV for several years, but has not had a product configurator until now. Using BuyDesign Configurator, Lippert will eliminate the need to maintain a separate bill of material (BOM) and routing for every variation of products such as axles and entry doors. Using the BuyDesign Configurator, manufacturing information will be dynamically generated based on the features, options, and dimensions specified at order entry time to drive production scheduling within NAV.

Kinro is moving from the Friedman Frontier ERP system to the MS Dynamics NAV system. They had made extensive use of the product configurator in their old system. They will now use BuyDesign Configurator to support order entry of all custom window and door products. They, too, will dynamically generate BOM and routing information to drive production within NAV.

"The BuyDesign product configurator gives us a practical way to capture the knowledge about both Lippert and Kinro products into easily-maintained product models we can use to guide order entry, ensure valid products, and generate manufacturing information," said Seth DeBriere, Lippert Director of IT Applications. "For Lippert, using a product configurator will significantly reduce the time and effort currently involved in maintaining hundreds of different BOMs and routings. It will also eliminate the errors all that data maintenance inevitably causes. For Kinro, BuyDesign offers a more powerful and intuitive product configuration process than what they had before."
